A veneer is a very thin shell of porcelain or plastic which is
permanently bonded to the front surface of a tooth.
Why
is a veneer needed?
Veneers provide a way of improving the appearance of teeth with
a minimum of drilling. They can be used for stained, discoloured,
chipped or broken teeth, crooked or misaligned teeth, or for closing
gaps.
What
is the procedure?
One of the main advantages of veneers is that there is not
usually a great deal of drilling needed in order to prepare
the tooth. In some cases there is no drilling at all. However,
this varies according to the individual circumstances.
Some veneers can be made in house on our revolutionary
Cerec machine. This technique eliminates the need for temporary
restorations and enables us to create superb cosmetic results
in one visit.
How
long will the veneer last?
Although
the veneer is only a wafer thin sliver of material, it delivers
its great strength and durability from the bond created between
it and the underlying tooth. However if a veneer fails , the process
can normally be repeated without difficulty.
